Lichfield Biology Tuition
Cancellation & Missed Lesson Policy
For in-home and online tuition
Effective from: 30 July 2026
This policy explains what happens if a booked lesson is cancelled, rearranged, missed or affected by lateness or technical problems. It forms part of the Lichfield Biology Tuition Terms & Conditions.
1. Cancelling or rearranging a lesson
Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rearrange a lesson. Where at least 24 hours’ notice is given, the lesson can normally be rearranged to an available time or, where appropriate, the payment can be held as credit.
2. Less than 24 hours’ notice
A lesson cancelled or rearranged with less than 24 hours’ notice is normally charged at the full lesson fee. This is because the time has been reserved and may not be possible to offer to another student at short notice.
Lichfield Biology Tuition may waive the charge in exceptional circumstances, for example a genuine emergency or sudden serious illness. Any waiver is discretionary and does not create an entitlement for future cancellations.
3. Missed lessons / no-shows
If a student does not attend a booked lesson and no cancellation has been received, the lesson is payable in full and any payment already made will not normally be refunded or credited.
4. Lateness
If the student is late, the lesson will normally still finish at the scheduled time and the full fee remains payable. The tutor will make reasonable efforts to contact the parent/carer where an under-18 student unexpectedly fails to attend an online lesson or is unavailable for an in-home lesson.
If the tutor is late, the lost teaching time will be made up where practicable. If that is not possible, an appropriate credit, rescheduled time or partial refund will be provided.
5. Tutor cancellation
If Lichfield Biology Tuition cancels a lesson, the customer will not lose the lesson fee. The customer may choose an agreed replacement lesson or a credit/refund for the affected lesson.
6. Online technical problems
If the tutor’s equipment, internet connection or platform access prevents a meaningful lesson from taking place, the affected teaching time will be rearranged, credited or refunded as appropriate.
If the problem is with the student’s device, internet connection or home setup, the lesson will normally be treated as booked and payable. The tutor will, however, use reasonable judgement where an unexpected technical failure makes the lesson impossible.
7. In-home access
For an in-home lesson, the customer must ensure the tutor can safely access the agreed address at the booked time. If the tutor attends but cannot gain access or the student is unavailable, the lesson will normally be treated as a missed lesson and charged in full.
8. Statutory rights
This policy does not affect any statutory consumer cancellation or refund rights. Separate rules may apply to contracts made online or at a distance, including a possible 14-day statutory cancellation period. Please see the Terms & Conditions for further information.
How to cancel
Cancellation/rearrangement requests should be sent to: [INSERT BUSINESS EMAIL OR AGREED CONTACT METHOD]. The time the message is received will be used to determine whether the 24-hour notice period has been met.
