Lichfield Biology Tuition
Terms & Conditions

For in-home and online tuition

Effective from: 30 July 2026

These Terms & Conditions explain the basis on which Lichfield Biology Tuition provides private tuition. Please read them before booking. Where the student is under 18, the parent/carer who books the tuition is the customer and is responsible for accepting these terms and making payment.

1. About the service

Lichfield Biology Tuition provides one-to-one private tuition, initially for a maximum of two students in total, in KS3 Science, GCSE Biology and A Level Biology. Tuition may be delivered online or in the student’s/parent’s home, as agreed.

2. Before tuition begins

A free 20-minute consultation may be used to discuss the student’s needs and whether the service is suitable. The parent/carer/customer may be asked to complete an intake form before the first lesson. A booking is confirmed only when the lesson has been agreed and any payment due has been received or an alternative payment arrangement has been expressly agreed.

3. Fees

Current standard one-hour session fees are £40 for KS3 Science, £45 for GCSE Biology and £55 for A Level Biology. Any different fee, package or duration will be agreed before purchase. There are no platform or agency fees charged by Lichfield Biology Tuition unless clearly stated before booking.

Fees may be changed for future bookings by giving reasonable notice. A fee change will not retrospectively alter a lesson already paid for.

4. Payment

Payment may be made online using the payment methods offered at checkout or by another method agreed directly with Lichfield Biology Tuition. Unless otherwise agreed, payment is required in advance to secure a lesson. The customer is responsible for ensuring payment is made when due.

5. Lessons

The tutor will provide the service with reasonable care and skill. Tuition is intended to support learning and examination preparation, but no particular grade, examination result, school outcome or academic improvement can be guaranteed.

The customer should provide accurate information about the student’s course, examination board, learning needs and relevant circumstances. The student should attend on time with suitable materials and engage appropriately with the lesson.

6. In-home tuition

The customer must provide a safe, suitable teaching environment. For a student under 18, a parent/carer or another responsible adult aged 18 or over should normally remain in the property during the lesson, subject to any specific arrangement agreed in advance. The Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy forms part of the arrangements for tuition.

7. Online tuition

The customer is responsible for a suitable device, internet connection and appropriate environment for online tuition. Lichfield Biology Tuition is not responsible for failures of the customer’s equipment or internet service. If a technical problem on the tutor’s side materially prevents the lesson, an appropriate rescheduled session, credit or refund will be offered for the affected tuition.

8. Cancellation, lateness and missed lessons

The separate Cancellation & Missed Lesson Policy forms part of these Terms & Conditions. In summary, at least 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or rearrange a lesson without charge, except where Lichfield Biology Tuition agrees otherwise. Lessons missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are normally payable in full.

9. Tutor cancellation

If Lichfield Biology Tuition has to cancel a lesson, the customer may choose an agreed replacement lesson or receive a credit/refund for the lesson affected. Lichfield Biology Tuition will not charge for tuition it cannot provide.

10. Consumer cancellation rights for online/distance bookings

Where a consumer enters into a contract online, by telephone or otherwise at a distance, statutory cancellation rights may apply. In many cases there is a 14-day cancellation period beginning after the contract is made. If the customer asks for tuition to begin during that period, the customer expressly requests early performance of the service. If the customer later exercises a valid statutory right to cancel after tuition has begun, the customer may be required to pay a proportionate amount for services already supplied. Once a service has been fully performed within the cancellation period following the customer’s express request and the legally required acknowledgement, the statutory cancellation right may be lost. Nothing in these terms limits statutory consumer rights.

11. Materials and intellectual property

Teaching resources supplied by the tutor are for the student’s personal educational use unless stated otherwise. They must not be sold, uploaded publicly, redistributed or commercially reproduced without permission. Third-party resources remain subject to their own copyright and licence terms.

12. Conduct and ending tuition

Lichfield Biology Tuition may pause or end a lesson where behaviour is unsafe, abusive, discriminatory, inappropriate or makes tuition impracticable. Repeated non-payment, repeated missed lessons, safeguarding concerns, or a breakdown in the professional tuition relationship may result in future tuition being declined. Any outstanding sums for lessons already provided or chargeable under the cancellation policy remain due.

13. Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to those rights, Lichfield Biology Tuition is not responsible for indirect losses or for matters outside its reasonable control.

14. Personal information

Personal information is handled in accordance with the Lichfield Biology Tuition Privacy Notice. Safeguarding information may be shared where necessary and lawful to protect a child.

15. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. The version applicable to a confirmed booking will be the version accepted when that booking was made, unless a change is required by law or is expressly agreed.

16. Governing law and complaints

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. This does not remove any mandatory consumer protections that apply. If the customer is unhappy with the service, they should contact Lichfield Biology Tuition first so the matter can be considered and, where possible, resolved.
